If a Pokémon was captured years ago, it has a higher chance of becoming Lucky. According to the research, there is a 5% chance that a Pokémon will be lucky if it is less than a year old, a 10% chance if it is a year old, and a 25% chance if it is two years old.
As a result, it is generally worthwhile to hang onto uncommon Pokémon for a long period if only to obtain a Lucky Pokémon.
Lucky friends:
Once you become Best Friends, there is a slight chance that every future friendship contact will turn you both become Lucky Friends. They’ll be identified as your Lucky Friend on your Friend List and Friend Profile pages, and you’ll receive an in-app notification to let you know.
If you happen to become Lucky Friends, your next trade is guaranteed to result in a Lucky Pokémon.

Lucky Pokémon are widely sought after since they require less Stardust to power up. Lucky Pokémon only require half as much stardust.
Typically, the Individual Values (or IVs) of the traded Pokémon are mixed up at random. The Pokémon will always have at least 80% IVs if you trade for it, making it a fairly powerful Pokémon. In light of this, if you have a Lucky Friend, send them one of your strongest Legendary or quasi-legendary Pokémon.
