Starfield: Where To Get A Scanner Jammer

Starfield: Where To Get A Scanner Jammer.

A not-so-honest day’s work does require some actual work, or in this case, traveling…

Now smuggling contraband is no simple task, lest you have all the basics covered. You can check out our guide on how smuggling works here.

Obtaining contraband is rather easy. Selling it is where the problem comes in. The problem is easily fixed if you have joined or want to join the Crimson Pirates.

If not the other options are more risky and require having the right modules on your ship.

Two things are needed to improve your odds of successfully smuggling contraband. A shielded cargo module and a scanner jammer.

The Red Mile on the planet Porrima III in the Porrima system is where your first stop needs to be. This is a location that is available pretty early on in the game.

Porrima System.

Once you have travelled you need to speak to Lon Anderssen and go with the option “I’d like to view and modify my ships”. Then choose the shipbuilder option and once there the add-on option.

Now you need to find the equipment category and get yourself a scanner jammer.

Here are the options for purchasing a jammer:

  • Scan Jammer – Single-Frequency: 2,850 Credits
  • Scan Jammer – Dual-Frequency: 4,750 Credits, also requires rank 1 of the Starship Design Skill
  • Scan Jammer – Multi-Frequency: 9,500 Credits, also requires rank 2 of the Starship Design Skill
Multi-Frequency Scanner Jammer.

What does it do exactly?

It’s as the name suggests. They jam the scanners which helps improve the odds of successfully smuggling contraband goods past authorities so that you can land and sell them and make some money.

Having just a jammer isn’t enough, it is strongly advised that you also invest in a shielded cargo module.

Shielded Cargo module.

Luckily that one can also be bought right here from Lon. Success also depends on the type of scanner you have installed, the more expensive the better the jammer.

However, they also require that you have unlocked certain skills to make use of them.

Here are the chances of successfully jamming the scanner with just a scanner installed:

  • Scan Jammer – Single-Frequency: 10% chance to evade a ship scan
  • Scan Jammer – Dual-Frequency: 30% chance to evade a ship scan
  • Scan Jammer – Multi-Frequency: 50% chance to evade a ship scan

Getting caught with contraband will either get you locked up or the entire space police chasing after you with a bounty on your head as well. The best is to be fully prepared to avoid getting caught.
