Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be released on Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC
Today’s Indie World Showcase began with Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, an upcoming game for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Risky Revolution was originally planned for the Game Boy Advance, but it was cancelled and never completed.
Co-creators Matt and Erin Bozon have reassembled the original team and will finally finish the game, which will be released in 2024. Shantae Advance will introduce some novel new features to the series, such as the ability to rearrange stages, as well as a 4-player Battle Mode featuring other characters from the series.
Official announce Trailer for Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution:
Shantae Advance is a Game Boy Advance game:
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution has been confirmed for modern platforms for the first time today, but Limited Run Games first announced it in July.
The publisher will sell a GBA cartridge for Risky Revolution in 2024, allowing players to enjoy the game on the system for which it was originally intended. At this time, Limited Run Games has not announced whether the game will also be available in physical form on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation, though it appears very likely.
With the exception of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, which received a physical release from Marvelous, the publisher has offered physical releases for every other game in the series over the last few years. Limited Run has also released a significant amount of series-related merchandise, such as SteelBook cases, soundtracks, and more.
Shantae’s Personal History:
While Shantae has become one of the most well-known indie game characters, the series has had a strange and long journey. Shantae was one of the final games released for the Game Boy Color, arriving in 2001. The game was a critical success, but it did not find a large audience because the focus had shifted to the Game Boy Advance.
WayForward began work on Risky Revolution after the release of Shantae, but development was “paused” in 2004. Shantae would not be seen again for several years, but she made a triumphant return in 2010 with Shantae: Risky’s Revenge. The game was first available for the Nintendo DSi.
What began as a fairly niche series has only grown in popularity in recent years. Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse was released in 2014, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero was released in 2016, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens was released in 2019.
When Risky Revolution is released in 2024, it will be the sixth installment in the series. It’s been a long road for WayForward and Shantae fans, but Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will finally be released in 2024.
