The hands of the doomsday clock edge closer to midnight as Amazon surprises fans by announcing an even earlier release for its highly-anticipated Fallout TV show. All eight episodes are set to drop tomorrow, April 10, at 6 pm PT / 9 pm EST / 2 am BST, with Europe technically getting it on April 11. The news was revealed through a trailer featuring Fallout actor Walton Goggins, who expressed gratitude to fans with the early release.
That’s an entire day earlier than the previously slated April 11 release, which had already been moved up from the initial April 12 date. Tough luck for those who rearranged their schedules, but there’s a certain amusing randomness to Amazon’s disregard for timelines. Maybe they’ll shift it to today at some juncture, then proceed to retroactively reschedule it further back in time as the weeks roll on. I won’t be surprised until it’s listed as airing alongside the Dreyfus affair on Wikipedia.
Previous reports had stated that on April 11, along with a number of co-streamers, Amazon would release the first episode of the series for free on its subsidiary Twitch. I’ve contacted them to see if this rescheduling affects the Twitch air date, and I’ll update you as soon as I hear back. As of right now, it appears likely that the show will still air on Twitch on the same day, with early access available only to Prime members.
Can we anticipate the show’s enjoyment factor? Will it meet fans’ expectations? Could it achieve the same level of success as The Last of Us? It’s difficult to predict at this juncture. However, in the immediate future, the matter might be inconsequential. According to Variety, California has already sanctioned $25 million in tax credits for a prospective second season of the show. This implies that filming for this hypothetical, albeit foreseeable, second season will likely shift to the NCR’s headquarters. It’s quite an unexpected turn of events, isn’t it?
