Amazon Games Is hiring Rainbow Six Siege Developers to help open a new AAA studio.
Amazon Games is proving that they are serious about breaking into the gaming industry. They are showing this by opening their own AAA Studio with the help of some Developers that previously worked on Rainbow Six Siege.
The announcement was made yesterday that Amazon Games has opened a new internal studio in Montreal Canada. The studio dubbed “Amazon Games Montreal” is currently hiring artists and designers for the new studio as it prepares for its first ever project.
Amazon is one of the largest and most successful companies in the world, but its gaming track record hasn’t been as successful. It seems though that they are trying to change all that with this new studio adding to the existing ones in Seattle, Orange County, and San Diego.
The creative director of the new studio and one of its founding members Xavier Marquis said in a statement “Building upon 8 years of experience with Siege, we are excited to start with a blank page and the creative freedom to create a completely unique experience in the multiplayer space.”
Amazon hasn’t got a great track record when it comes to games, remember Crucible? It was a free-to-play multiplayer Third-Person Shooter that was released in May last year and then promptly returned to closed Beta a month later. Then in October, it was announced that the studio was cancelling development on the game altogether. Three other titles Amazon eventually cancelled were Nova, Breakaway, and Intensity.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy expressed his commitment to the project though telling employees in an email recently that he believes the game development division can thrive “if we hang in there.”
Amazon Games currently has a few games in the pipeline, this includes New World, which is set to be released in August this year. They also have a Lord Of The Rings MMO in the works that they are currently working on.
Since the studio opened in 2012 most of their games have only been released on the Amazon Appstore or mobile devices and this limited their reach which probably also explains why they didn’t receive much notoriety.
It seems though that Amazon is willing to try and turn this all around and make a success of this new venture. They have shown this by hiring big guns in the industry who have worked on big names. Hopefully, this will be enough to pull them out of their slump and help them to make a successful go at breaking into the game development industry
