An official release date has been confirmed for Atomic Heart, the Soviet shooter that resembles Bioshock.
Russian Developer Mundfish has been working on a Soviet shooter which is reminiscent of Bioshock since 2018 and they have finally given us a solid release date.
The release date has been set as the 21st of February 2023. The release date has been clouded in mystery as Mundfish first announced it for Q4 of 2022.
They then changed it to “This Winter”, after which they said September this year. Now finally we have a set date for February next year. The reason for the delay was cited by Focus Entertainment as a matter of “Polishing and delivering a game of the highest quality”.
For those who aren’t aware of the game. Atomic Heart is an upcoming FPS action role-playing game developed by Mundfish and published by Focus Entertainment.
The official Steamstore overview states:
“In a mad and sublime utopian world, take part in explosive encounters. Adapt your fighting style to each opponent, use your environment and upgrade your equipment to fulfill your mission. If you want to reach the truth, you’ll have to pay in blood.”
Atomic Heart Release Date Trailer:
The above trailer doesn’t really give us much more insight into the game besides the release date and some awesome gameplay footage.
One thing we do know is that there will be many weird androids in this game. So if AI is your thing you are bound to have a good time here.
Gameplay:
As for gameplay, we know there will be shooting and melee swinging with improvised weapons in the game. A crafting system allows you to piece together weapons out of metal parts that can be detached from robots or taken from household appliances.
The game supports quick-time events and allows the player to upgrade weapons with a mechanic called “cassettes.” Ammo is scarce in the game, and there is a sneaking option.
Story-Line:
Atomic Heart takes place in an alternate 1955 in the Soviet Union. Though with a significantly higher death toll, advances in robotics made in the 1930s allowed the USSR to overcome Nazi Germany in 1941.
By the end of the 1940s, this leads to the automation of a large portion of Soviet work and the creation of a proto-Internet known as the “Collectiv 1.0”. This links these robots, significantly boosting productivity and scientific achievement.
Scientist Dmitriy Sechenov creates the “neuro-polymer,” a programmable module based on live tissue. Sechenov, a proponent of a communal consciousness, intends to introduce the “Collectiv” at its most modern stage on his 55th birthday in 1955.
There will be three editions available namely: The Standard Edition which will consist of the base game. The Gold Edition which will have the base game that includes the Atomic Pass in addition to the game. Finally, there will be the Premium edition which will consist of the Gold edition content, an exclusive digital art book, and some extra cosmetics.
With four DLCs, the Atomic Pass expands on the Atomic Heart experience by giving players access to new regions, labs, weaponry, adversaries, bosses, and more.
Mundfish will release Atomic Heart on the 21st of February 2023 and preorders are open now.
