Battlefield 2042 Gets Update Complete With VolP Functionality

Battlefield-2042-Gets-Update-Complete-With-VolP-Functionality-1

This seventh installment in the franchise has been out since November last year and this patch is the first to add VolP after players have only been able to Text chat.

Battlefield 2042 was a highly anticipated installment in the franchise, however, it disappointed many fans upon release due to technical faults, a lack of content, and several gameplay modifications.

It seems EA has finally sat up and taken note as they are releasing update 4.0 and its accompanying patch notes which hit all platforms today.

The biggest patch news is that Battlefield 2042 now has in-game squad and party VoIP, which means you won’t have to rely on third-party apps and services to communicate with your friends, which has been a thorn in the side of many fans since the game’s release.

However, the VoIP feature would not work across a full team. Parties and squads are the only channels available (which can have a maximum of four members). With up to 64 individuals on a team, audio chat could quickly become chaos with so many people chatting over one other.

While Battlefield 2042 players can utilize built-in party chat tools or third-party services like Discord to communicate with teammates they don’t know, they haven’t been able to communicate with strangers until now. That’s a huge oversight in a game like this. It’s encouraging to see DICE and EA finally getting their act together.

There are also various other patches and updates and here are the highlights of those upgrades:

  • VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is now available in Battlefield 2042.
  • There are two voice chat channels to choose between Party and Squad. Settings for VoIP can be adjusted via Options > Sound/Voice > Chat while in-game.
  • Balance adjustments to Specialists such as updated Traits for Rao and Paik, and improvements to Sundance’s Specialty, with a focus on their Anti-Armor Grenades being more effective against targets in their immediate vicinity
  • Vehicle balance changes such as making the M5C Bolte’s passengers easier to target, and a reduction in power for its Missile Launcher
  • Fixes for being unable to ADS after exiting a vehicle, or being unable to revive players near objects
  • Improved Ribbons and XP Events to make them easier to unlock across modes

EA finished off their blog by saying:

“We’d like to thank you for your patience while we’ve worked to get this update into your hands, and we’re looking forward to your continued feedback once you’ve been able to hop in and play.

Our next update following this one is presently scheduled to release in May and is focused on bringing further quality of life updates and bug fixes. We’ll have more to tell you about the contents of that update closer to its release.”

EA has been listening it seems with these patches and upgrades but why has it taken so long to get VolP? When the other Battlefield games with this feature already built-in, but at least players can now look forward to a solution to this annoying issue that has been plaguing fans.
