It seems like Battlefield 2042 is making a strong comeback
Battlefield 2042 seems to be experiencing a massive revival. EA’s futuristic FPS was released almost two years ago. If you recall, it really didn’t go as planned and the launch was deemed a failure. However, the developers mentioned they won’t give up on the game and it seems like it paid off. The game has hit a new player peak on Steam recently. Since then it has maintained the same numbers it had during its launch.
Here are some interesting numbers to showcase the peak. On the 12th of October 2023, Battlefield 2042 had a player count of 107,376 which might not seem like much. However, when you compare it to its launch numbers from November 2021 which was 105,397 it makes it rather impressive.
Also, note that these are only numbers from players on Steam. So it excludes other platforms. The numbers were excreted from SteamDB. That is not all that makes the resurgence so unique.
The game was made free to try on all platforms on the 12th of October for that weekend. This is most probably the reason the game was able to hit the new player peak. The impressive part is that the game has been able to maintain similar numbers even after the free-to-play weekend ended. This means that players decided the game was worth it to buy and keep playing it.
The past weekend proved that when the game had a player peak of over 107,000 again, this was on Steam alone.
As I mentioned above, DICE said they will not abandon the game and they will continue with support for Battlefield 2042 and now it seems like their efforts have been paying off. It would be interesting to know the exact player count since we are not able to factor in console or other PC Gaming platforms in.
The game is also available to users with an active Game Pass Ultimate subscription and it is also part of the PlayStation Plus lineup. The latest season for Battlefield 2042 also just released, Season 6 so the game has new content as well for all the new and returning players.
