It’s official the newest installment in the Battlefield universe will be Battlefield 2042, here is what we know so far.

Battlefield has been a highly popular franchise ever since the first game’s release way back in 2002. The core of the First Person Shooter has always been teamwork, vehicles, and vast maps, And it’s because of this that the series now has such a large fan base.

This new installment dubbed Battlefield 2042 was revealed in a livestream and it will be released in October 2021.

Here are some of the new features:

  • There will now be a player count of 128.
  • The maps are separated into sectors, each of which contains a cluster of control points that players must take to gain control of that sector.
  • All maps released after the initial launch will be available for free.          
  • Specialists are now grouped together in classes Each specialist has their own narrative and specific gadget, though they can use any gun.
  • There will be 10 specialists available at launch.
  • The gadgets featured will be: A grappling hook, an auto turret, a movement sensor and a health/revive gun.
  • Players can purchase battle passes.
  • Certain vehicles will feature spotter seats.
  • No single-player campaign.
  • No battle royale but there will be some mystery modes.
  • The Battlefield 2024 alpha will begin in July, with the beta following shortly after.
Battlefield 2042 Unveiled

Battlefield 2024 will be released on the 22nd of October and will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. For the PC version, you will be able to download it from EA’s Origin store, Epic Game Store, and Steam.

The official gameplay trailer for the game will be shown at Xbox and Bethesda’s E3 showcase on the 13th of June.

According to the official game website “Battlefield 2042 marks the return to the iconic all-out warfare of the franchise. Adapt and overcome dynamically-changing battlegrounds with the help of your squad and a cutting-edge arsenal. With support for 128 players*, prepare for unprecedented scale on vast environments. Take on massive experiences, from updated multiplayer modes like Conquest and Breakthrough to the all-new Hazard Zone.”

According to the site, fans will be able to unleash their “combat creativity” with new cutting edge weapons, vehicles, helicopters, and all new equipment inspired by the near future of 2042. There will also be some current-day prototypes thrown into the mix including, Robotic dogs, Automated turrets, and drones, etc.

The maps will include areas of adverse weather patterns such as Sandstorms, Active tornadoes, etc which will add to the difficulty.

So to make it easier for everyone to navigate around these areas, players will be able to use a tablet to request ground vehicle delivery from anywhere on the map. Destruction, of course, returns, as does ground deformation, which series fans will be especially pleased to see.

The maps that will be available at launch are as follows:

  • Kaleidoscope: Set in Sogdo, South Korea. Forces here will clash to control a quantum powered disinformation hub after an attack threatens the global network.
  • Manifest: Set in Brani Island, Singapore. Players will see a strategic flashpoint emerge as global trade chokes this location which is vital for the American supply lines.
  • Orbital: Set in Kourou, French Guiana. The battle here is over a rocket launch site as a controversial space launch becomes a race against time.
  • Discarded: Set in Alang, India. Here you see shipbreakers facing tidal extremes as factions fight to secure rogue nuclear assets.
  • Renewal: Set in the Eastern Desert, Egypt. Players will fight for a groundbreaking agriculture technology centre in the Egyptian Desert.
  • Hourglass: Set in Doha, Qatar. Shifting sands and a lost shipping convoy tear a city center apart.
  • Breakaway: Set in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. Struggle over oil and gas that pushes soldiers to the brink as an industry clashes with nature and ice gives way.

Battlefield 2042 is set in a near-future world that has been destroyed by disasters caused by global warming in the face of a global economic and political crisis, several countries are closing their borders to refugees as they try to safeguard their own citizens.

As a result of these events, a group of individuals known as the Non-Patriated (or No-Pats) emerges, whose homelands have crumbled. No-Pats are persons from all walks of life who are unaffiliated with any country or flag.

A large communication blackout caused by the collapse of the bulk of Earth’s satellites thrusts the US and Russia into a confrontation for resources two years before the main game’s events, and the two superpowers end up recruiting No-Pats to fight their proxy wars.
