The official subreddit for Battlefield 2042 has been deemed so toxic that it may be shut down.
We’ve all seen some online keyboard warriors say some horrific things about others, but the newest iteration of The Battlefield franchise appears to have created a toxic environment in its own official subreddit.
A social media dogpile spawned by a Battlefield 2042 spokesperson’s tweet thread has the potential to shut down the game’s official subreddit.
EA Global Comms director Andy McNamara took to social media to remind the gaming community that the development team are just getting back from their holiday break and they want fans to understand that all the changes they are asking for in the game will “take time to scope, design, and execute.”
He went on to say: “Guys, people got to rest. We have things in motion, but we have to figure out what is possible.”

This was in response to some really nasty comments by fans including:
“We wanted a finished game, I guess this unfinished buggy sh*t is all you are capable of making. I paid $100 for the game and it is only 20% finished, but you are doing some nice long holidays, and If the job as game developer is too hard, do not do it.”
I think we can all agree that some of these comments were unnecessary, to say the least, but then one fan replied to the developer’s post saying:” Your message was very clear. You cannot handle criticism and think it is okay to pump out a horribly gutted mess like Battlefield 2042.”

In response to all the negative comments, Dice stated:
” It is an understatement when we say that this subreddit has grown incredibly toxic. It is near impossible to have a simple discussion without insults being flung around at each other.”

The decision has been made by the developers to watch the toxicity levels of the subreddit and if they do not go down or if the toxicity increases they will “lockdown the subreddit for a period of time.”
They go on to say:
“The choice is in your hands. If you do not like the options available to you, you are welcome to unsubscribe and create your own community outlet.”
Fans, like everyone else, have opinions, but is it necessary to hurl such nasty remarks to get your point across?
