After Years of Overhauls and Expansions, Developer Confirms Closure on Current Iteration

CD Projekt RED has officially wrapped up development on Cyberpunk 2077, signaling the end of an era marked by extensive bug fixes, overhauls, and content expansions.

Following the release of the critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023, Cyberpunk 2077 game director Gabe Amatangelo confirmed to veteran journalist Stephen Totilo that the development team is “done.” Despite sporadic additions like a functioning metro system and vehicle customizations in recent updates, there are no plans for further content updates.

While Gabe acknowledged the possibility of minor additions if they pose minimal risk or require little effort, the primary focus has shifted towards the sequel. Development for the sequel is already in progress at CD Projekt RED’s new Boston studio, led by veterans such as Gabe Amatangelo and quest director PaweĊ‚ Sasko. Drawing from the lessons learned during Cyberpunk 2077’s tumultuous journey, the team aims to ensure a smoother launch for the highly anticipated follow-up.

With the legacy of Cyberpunk 2077 serving as a guiding light, fans can anticipate a new chapter in the franchise that builds upon the improvements and innovations introduced throughout its evolution.
