CD Projekt Red is making some changes in the next year concerning new AAA titles and how it approaches new game releases.
CD Projekt Red has released a Group Strategy Update and in it has outlined the changes they are planning to make in the upcoming year.
The developer is hard at work changing their approach to all things AAA and among these changes is a streamlining of their development process and in turn, being able to develop to major titles at the same time.
The company is also planning to have Cross-Functional teams that will work on both The Witcher franchise as well as Cyberpunk 2077 and in this way they can have closer communication and skill sharing.
They are calling this project their “Red 2.0 transformation plan” and say that if they achieve everything they set out to do in this plan then they can begin Parallel AAA Development in 2022.
In the video, they also mention that they are changing their marketing and PR campaigns, approach to marketing new titles.
For eg., they will start their marketing and PR campaigns closer to the launch of the game in question, but they haven’t completely ruled out teasing new projects early on.
Their communication about the new games will now focus on more polished demo’s and game footage and showcases of the new games will be shown on all platforms that the game will be released on.
Their roadmaps will also be changing from 5 year plans to annual road maps and in that way they say that they can be more agile. They mentioned their roadmaps for Cyberpunk 2077 for 2021 saying that there will be patches and updates, Free DLC’s, and even a NextGen Update. As for The Witcher, for 2021 they are planning working on The Witcher: Monster Slayer, The Witcher 3: Next-Gen update, and further development of GWENT.
Adam Badowski himself mentioned the work satisfaction of his employees stating that in order to keep them from burning out they focus on the employee’s comfort in the way of inclusiveness and diversity.
Being open includes Bilateral Internal communication and a barrierless environment. Empowering their teams includes Ambitious projects and personal development through regular workshops and training.
The entire video is quite long and involved and was probably made for investors more than fans but it really gives us an insight into the inner workings of the Cyberpunk 2077 developer./
CD Projekt Red didn’t actually mention the AAA titles that will be developed in 2022, but with all these changes and positive fixes going on in the company, it will be interesting to see how the changes affect any new games being developed.
