The upcoming installment will combine Bullet Hell, PvE, and using your skills as a dwarf to mine riches and kill aliens.
Deep Rock has a new installment coming out in the first quarter of next year called Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. The new game was only announced a few months ago and is already gaining interest from fans of various genres.
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is being developed by Funday Games and published by Ghost Ship Publishing.
The game is presently in a closed early access phase on PC, utilizing a rolling invitation system (you can join the waitlist on its Steam page). Its developers anticipate a public early access release ‘toward the conclusion of 2023,’ with an expected ‘6–12 months’ of early access following its February launch.
Steam’s official overview invites you to:
“Kill bugs, upgrade your gear, and delve ever deeper into the lethal caves of Hoxxes. Collect and assemble a devastating array of guns, unleash hell upon wave after wave of alien monsters in fast and frenetic combat, and tunnel your way to collect precious riches from deep within the cave walls. Each mission is unique, using procedural cave generation and enemy waves, just as you’ve come to know from Deep Rock Galactic.”
The system requirements are as follows:
Minimum:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Win 10
- Processor: Intel i5-4590 or similar
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: Geforce GTX 960 or similar
- Storage: 1 GB available space
Recommended:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
Clearly, you won’t require a high-end machine to run this game and experience all of its features.
While the early access version of the game may not encompass all its features, it remains highly enjoyable and offers a tantalizing preview of the immersive world that awaits if you decide to acquire the full game.
Similar to DRG, you commence the game by selecting a dwarf class – for the demo, only Scout is accessible, specializing in speed, agility, and sniping. You descend into one of the vast caves on the planet Hoxxes. Much like Vampire Survivors, you contend with swarms of enemies, consisting of the series’ assortment of alien bugs. Your character automatically fires their weapons as you navigate the map.
However, you maintain your role as both a miner and a warrior. The game’s most intriguing feature lies in the ability to tunnel through rock formations within the environment.
Digging through stone may slow you down, but it enables you to forge entirely new routes and swift escape paths from clusters of enemies. You can even create choke points to lure adversaries into narrow passages, where your area-of-effect or piercing weapons can efficiently dispatch them. This interaction with the environment is more nuanced compared to Deep Rock Galactic but retains a remarkably similar feel.
The game will supposedly be released in February of next year but this is not set in stone yet.
