Loadshedding got you down? Don’t worry, Dungeon Brah has you sorted for entertainment.
From the creator of Boet Fighter – the 2D action-indie PC & mobile game based on the cliché happenings in and around the city of Johannesburg where you’re out to “moer all of Fourways in the face” – Louis Du Pisani has graced us with a South African deck-building dungeon-crawler card game; which was technically in creation before Boet Fighter.
Straight to the Point
First thing’s first, why have I brought you here? Dungeon Brah is holding a small competition on their Facebook Page where you could be immortalized as a Hero Card in Dungeon Brah’s final release. The DB team is looking for four players to playtest the game on Comic Con Africa’s stream, where you also get to meet the DB team.
Literally, all you need to do is leave a comment on the post that you are keen to be a part of this rad opportunity (you can even tag your friends if you’d like for them to join in the fun) and be willing to make the trip to Comic-Con Africa HQ situated in Randburg on the 15th of September 2021.

What is Dungeon Brah
In short, Dungeon Brah is an RPG-style deck-builder game, where you fend off monsters and loot until your heart’s content. The ultimate goal is to scour the dungeons for loot and be the sole survivor, while thwarting the grotesque creatures that lurk in the shadows and coming face-to-face with the Cathulian fiend overlord, Kevin.
You will initially begin with two cards and work your way from there, losing and gaining as you trek along, obviously with each card having its own special perks, abilities, and weaknesses. Cards vary from characters, tools, weapons, action cards, enchantments, and so on. The availability and variation of cards allows you to build up and create your character; but beware that the greed of gathering as much loot as you can carry will bring on extra onslaught from Kevin’s Monsters, so you might need to weigh up your options.
Embarking on such a quest could either end in some wonderful bonding time with your friends or it could just as easily devolve into a right-out feud. Dungeon Brah can be played with 2-4 players and with the creator being Louis Du Pisani, we can expect the same kind of humorous quirks as in Boet Fighter.

Funnily enough, as mentioned before, this card game was in development quite a while before Boet Fighter, and for the first while it was playtested by the team without any sort of artwork. It was just a couple of lads with some scribbles on paper and even then it turned out to be a blast. Originally this was to be a complete board game and all artwork duties were going to be shared with a local artist but due to time constraints, this ended up to no longer be the case.
The core design idea is for this to be a simple enough game that you can “explain it to a drunkard in under 2 minutes” while still maintaining enough meat to the concept to allow a transmuting meta.
“This, much like any RPG, is an exercise of avoiding the scary until you are strong enough to fight the scary thing because the scary thing drops awesome loot that makes you the scary thing.” – Louis Du Pisani.
Du Pisani states that this is something that he’s always wanted to do, to create his own deck-builder game. It certainly has a unique style of artwork and while keeping it simple he’s made sure that it still has that “grabbing factor”. There is not yet a release date but with the way things are going, it looks like Dungeon Brah could be coming out relatively soon.

Honestly, despite the slightly cringey name, I find this to be intriguing and I’m absolutely loving the artwork. This will be a set that I’ll be sure to nab up as soon as I can because I really do love me a good card game and what better way to indulge than to support local while you’re at it?
