EA In Talks About Possible Merger

EA-In-Talks-About-Possible-Merger

EA is said to be in talks with a number of tech giants about a prospective merger or acquisition.

EA (Electronic Arts) needs no introduction as they currently develop ad publish some of the biggest games in the industry including Need For Speed, Mass Effect, Apex Legends Medal Of Honor, and even Madden NFL.

As one of the largest gaming publishers, it’s big news when they put themselves on the market for a merger such as this.

Apple is another possible contender for an EA acquisition.

The news comes via Puck who says EA wants to sell the company to companies like Apple, Amazon, Disney, and a number of others. The company has previously held negotiations with the aforementioned companies, and while no contract is currently in the works, a deal with NBC Universal almost happened.

The NBC contract fell through due to a price disagreement, but this demonstrates EA’s readiness to negotiate a deal if the price is right.

EA is looking for a deal that will allow Andrew Wilson to stay CEO of the combined company, according to Puck.

Disney is a possible taker for EA.

In March, EA reportedly approached Disney in an attempt to build a “more meaningful relationship” that would go beyond licensing negotiations. However, Disney declined to pursue the deal.

Apparently, since the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard EA has been even more determined in its quest for a merger or buyout although EA spokesperson John Reseburg told Puck that the company would not comment “on rumors and speculation relating to [mergers and acquisitions].”

Reseburg then added:

“We are proud to be operating from a position of strength and growth, with a portfolio of amazing games, built around powerful IP, made by incredibly talented teams, and a network of more than half a billion players. We see a very bright future ahead.”

This is a very politically correct response from a company that wants to keep its business dealings private.

You can be sure we will be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more news on this one as this will be major news when it does finally hit.
