FromSoftware Implements Novel Leveling System in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
In the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, players will face a formidable challenge thanks to a distinct leveling system reminiscent of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, signaling a departure from traditional RPG mechanics.
Director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed in an interview with Famitsu that the DLC will feature a leveling system akin to Sekiro’s attack power enhancement mechanic. Unlike conventional RPGs, where players can grind for levels to overcome challenges, this system focuses solely on enhancing the player’s attack power. Similar to Sekiro’s Prayer Beads or boss victories, players will acquire enhancements periodically, ensuring a consistent level of challenge regardless of their initial character level.
Miyazaki emphasized that this approach aims to provide a fresh and engaging experience for players entering the DLC, irrespective of their progression in the base game. Additionally, exploration will play a crucial role in bolstering the player’s attack power, hinting at alternative methods beyond traditional leveling.
This innovative approach to difficulty scaling in Elden Ring’s DLC emphasizes strategic gameplay and exploration over brute force leveling, challenging even the most seasoned veterans of FromSoftware’s titles. As players prepare to delve into the treacherous depths of Shadow of the Erdtree upon its release on June 21, the conventional wisdom of grinding for levels may no longer apply, ushering in a new era of dynamic and immersive RPG experiences.
