FromSoftware Unfazed By Soulslike Competition Focus Remains On Player Enjoyment

Hidetaka Miyazaki Affirms Studio’s Commitment to Authentic Game Development

FromSoftware, renowned for pioneering the Soulslike genre with titles like Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, remains unfazed by the increasing competition in the challenging action game space.

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Hidetaka Miyazaki, head of FromSoftware, expressed confidence in the studio’s approach, emphasizing player satisfaction as the driving force behind their game development. Despite the influx of new Soulslike titles, Miyazaki notes that players continue to enjoy FromSoftware’s offerings, granting the studio creative freedom and alleviating any sense of pressure.

“We have seen that players seem to enjoy our games,” Miyazaki states, highlighting the trust players place in the studio to deliver engaging experiences. He emphasizes the importance of creating games based on passion and enjoyment rather than succumbing to external pressures for commercial success.

Miyazaki also addresses the persistent demand for a Bloodborne remake, expressing his appreciation for fans’ enthusiasm while acknowledging that decisions regarding the IP ultimately rest with Sony, the game’s owner.

While the Soulslike genre continues to expand with upcoming releases like Black Myth: Wukong, FromSoftware remains focused on its upcoming venture, Shadow of the Erdtree, scheduled for release on June 21 as the highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC. Beyond this, the studio’s future endeavors remain shrouded in mystery, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what FromSoftware has in store next.
