Who ya gonna call?
While certain Destiny 2 crossovers seem logical, such as Mass Effect or The Witcher, where elements seamlessly blend with the game’s aesthetic, others like Assassin’s Creed might be a stretch, albeit understandable with the Hunter’s cloaks. However, the announcement of Ghostbusters joining the mix is somewhat unexpected. Despite the surprise, it appears to be a reality.
The mashup was revealed via a tweet:

What’s in store for us? Thanks to Sony Pictures, Destiny 2 will feature a Ghostbusters-inspired collection called “Frozen Empire,” including a Slimer Guardian Ghost, a Sparrow inspired by Garraka, and an Ecto-1-themed Ship. For those unfamiliar, Garraka is the antagonist in the upcoming Ghostbusters film, Frozen Empire.
Purchasers of either the set or individual pieces will also receive the “Bungie Rewards Slimer Ghost Shell papercraft mask” at no additional cost. Unfortunately, I don’t have an image of it available.
Notably missing from the lineup is any new armor, typically the focal point of such crossovers. It’s a bit disappointing since, after years of donning increasingly intricate (and often peculiar-looking) high-tech suits, the idea of slipping into simple coveralls before battling humanity’s deadliest foes sounds refreshing. Though perhaps not thematically aligned, it’s a missed opportunity. Additionally, the absence of a ghostly shader is noticeable, especially given players’ persistent requests for a Taken shader.
While pricing remains undisclosed, the release date is confirmed for March 19, aligning with the theatrical premiere of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. This correlation sheds light on the unexpected crossover, as Sony’s ownership of Bungie ties into their distribution of the film.
