The changes to Rockstar’s website coincide with the release of the GTA 6 trailer
Rockstar Games appears to be updating its Social Club system ahead of the full reveal of GTA 6.
Yesterday, November 20, members of the GTA 5 community began noticing changes to the game’s website. Specifically, all mention of GTA Online’s ‘Social Club’ was removed from the website, leaving only the Rockstar Games logo, as seen in the screenshots below.
The main site and Socialclub have been updated by Rockstar.
The removal of the Social Club branding appears to be a deliberate Rockstar move, according to the lower of the two tweets just below. All mentions of the feature have now been removed, and only Rockstar Games are mentioned in their place, implying that the Social Club is about to change.
On the sign-in page, all Social Club branding has been removed and replaced with the Rockstar logo. On the front page, it was also removed.
It’s unclear whether the Social Club will be discontinued entirely or simply replaced by another online service. At the time of writing, Rockstar had not even publicly commented on the changes, so the only information we have is what the GTA community has managed to unearth.
However, it would be remiss not to mention the timing of these changes in relation to the eventual release of GTA 6 next month in December. Rockstar confirmed the sequel in a series of messages from creative director Dan Houser earlier this month, promising a trailer for the new game the following month.
It’s possible that Rockstar will reveal a new Social Club-like feature alongside, or shortly after, the release of GTA 6. The Social Club debuted alongside GTA 4’s release in 2008, making it more than 15 years old at this point. Maybe Rockstar wants to branch out.
