Resident Evil has always been popular and 2021 seems to be a big year for the franchise with many new releases for fans to look forward to.

As the release of Resident Evil Village and our dear Lady Dimitrescu approaches. MGR Gaming has decided to publish daily articles exploring and delving into various aspects of Resident Evil. This is the first article in the series, and our aim is to teach you all there is to know about the Resident Evil franchise, past, current, and future.

Resident Evil is one of the most popular franchises in recent history so much so that it has spread to many different platforms including Video Games, Movies and even being snapped up by Netflix in the form of series.

This year seems to be Resident Evil’s year, as there are a slew of new titles coming out.  These include new games, new movies, and brand new series.

Fans would be ecstatic, but with so much confusion, it’s easy to get lost and confused, so we’ve decided to find all of the latest releases for 2021 for you so you don’t have to.

We will start with the games that have their release date this year.

Games:

Resident Evil 8: Village (7th of May 2021)(PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S):

This is the one that all fans are looking forward to with great anticipation.

Experience survival horror like never before in the eighth major installment in the storied Resident Evil franchise – Resident Evil Village.

Set a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again.

Resident Evil Re: Verse (7th of May 2021)(PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam):

This upcoming multiplayer will be released as part of a bundle with Resident Evil 8 purchases. Resident Evil Re: Verse features third person over the shoulder multiplayer action with characters from the Resident Evil franchise. Four to six players take part in 5-minute deathmatch battles, using weapons and items found through the map, with the player scoring the most points at the end of the match winning. Each Survivor character has their own set of skills and weapon loadout.

Survivors that are taken down transform into powerful Bioweapons that can change the tide of battle, with players able to upgrade their Bioweapon transformation by obtaining Virus Capsules. Once the Bioweapon is killed, the player will respawn as a Survivor.

Resident Evil Revelations 3 (Outrage)(2021)( Nintendo Switch):

This game is mostly whispers and rumours and not much is known about it. It is suspected that it hasn’t been announced yet so that it won’t steal the limelight from Resident Evil 8 launching soon. The game will reportedly be launched within a year of Resident Evil 8.

The game is said to be on the same level as Code Veronica, but not much more is known about the game.

All Resident Evil Content Coming Soon

Resident Evil 4: Remake (2021/2022):

This remake is still shrouded in mystery and rumours. It has not yet been confirmed by Capcom themselves although its existence has been leaked by many different sources.

The Remake’s existence has been rumoured and leaked since early last year and has reportedly gotten the blessing of series creator Shinji Mikami.

This remake will be very welcomed in the Resident Evil community and is already highly anticipated.

The sixth major installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 4 was originally released for the GameCube in 2005. Players control U.S. government special agent Leon S. Kennedy, who is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. president’s daughter Ashley Graham, who has been kidnapped by a cult.

In a rural part of Europe, Leon fights hordes of villagers infected by a mind-controlling parasite and reunites with the spy Ada Wong.

Series:

Resident Evil (Live-action series):

Netflix confirmed the new series via Tweet in August 2020 and hasn’t yet given us a release date.

The series’ filming has concluded, and the team is now working on the CGI elements, but no release date has been set. The plot of season one was described as such:

“The drama series will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus. While the project is in early stages, the series is expected to incorporate all of Resident Evil’s signature elements, including action sequences and easter eggs.”

The plot will be split into two timelines. The first includes Jade and Billie Wesker, 14-year-old sisters who are relocating to New Raccoon City. They begin to suspect that their father is keeping dark secrets from them that could ruin the world.

The second timeline is set a decade in the future when only 15 million humans remain and the T-virus has infected over 6 billion animals and people. It follows Jade, now thirty years old, as she tries to make a living in this world.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness :

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is an upcoming CG anime Netflix series scheduled for release in July this year.

The series will star Resident Evil 2 protagonists, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Teaser art and a teaser trailer have also been revealed with the title announcement! In the teaser art, we see Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield against the backdrop of a blood-splattered wall, silently waiting to take on a new threat after cheating death time and time again.

Revealed simultaneously, the teaser trailer depicts scenes of courage as Claire enters an abandoned building enveloped by the dark night as she happens to find “something” while Leon saves “someone” in the darkness.

You can see every tiny speck of floating dust and the tension of the characters’ expressions in these ultra-realistic, high-quality visuals which ramp up the intensity from the very start! Plug in a pair of headphones to double the terror in this teaser that will surely stir up expectations for this series!

Resident Evil (Movie):

Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City is the title of an upcoming American-German survival horror film directed by Johannes Roberts and written by Johannes Roberts and Greg Russo.

The film stars Kaya Scodelario, Robbie Amell, Hannah John-Kamen, Avan Jogia, Tom Hopper, Lily Gao, Neal McDonough, and Donal Logue.

The storyline will be that of an origin story, set in 1998 and based on elements from the first and second Resident Evil games. It is said that the film reboot will be “super, super scary”. Resident Evil is scheduled to be released on the 24th of November 2021
