CoD Modern Warfare 2 has earned $1 Billion faster than any previous CoD title.
The game has just recently landed being released on the 28th of October but has already amassed major coin for the makers.
The developer of this ground-breaking game Activision Blizzard confirmed on Monday that the game had crossed the $1 Billion threshold in just ten days of sales.
The game had already amassed $800 million in sales in its first three days of sales.
2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which took 15 days to reach the $1 billion mark, held the previous franchise record.
The game also experienced the biggest Call of Duty PlayStation Store launch ever, leading Xbox’s Phil Spencer to claim that the Activision Blizzard acquisition by Microsoft will not prevent the Call of Duty franchise from appearing on PlayStation platforms.
Johanna Faries, general manager of Call of Duty said:
”The incredible momentum driving Modern Warfare II is a direct reflection of the energy and passion of the Call of Duty community. As we look ahead to an unprecedented level of support for Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0’s launch next week, we are motivated to deliver again for the best player community in the world.”
Activision also noted that more than 1 billion matches of Modern Warfare II have been played, totaling more than 200 million hours of playing time.
On the 16th of November, Warzone 2.0 will be released, and a major launch is anticipated. Warzone Mobile, a new Call of Duty game, will debut next year.
Activision Blizzard had their third Quarter financial results for 2022 released yesterday. Activision Blizzard’s net revenues for the three months ended on the 30th of September, 2022, as reported in conformity with GAAP, were $1.78 billion as opposed to $2.07 billion for the same period in 2021.
Since this huge financial boost stemming from the CoD Modern Warfare 2 release, we can expect the next Quarters’ financial results to be substantially better.
Grand Theft Auto V by Take-Two, which generated $1 billion in sales in just three days, is still the fastest-selling game of all time based on launch revenue.
