Although the release date has not been announced for the upcoming post-apocalyptic base builder, a free demo can now be downloaded from Steam.
This upcoming base-building RTS incorporates zombie survival and imports real-world map data, allowing players to set up their titular zone anywhere they want.
As you lead your survivor groups, you can organize them into squads and work crews to rebuild civilization. In later phases of the game, you’ll build walls, factories, science labs, and more by scavenging for supplies and gathering materials.
The official steam overview states:
“The Mad Virus” has spread throughout the world with the speed of jet planes. The infected are highly aggressive, fast and strong. In a couple of weeks, society collapsed. Cities are empty. There is no electricity, no water, and no food. Yet, there are a few survivors…”
In terms of combat, be prepared for nightly attacks from large hordes of infected on your settlement. Defend against them using a variety of tools, including melee and ranged weapons, vehicles, sturdy walls, and bright lights. Additionally, you can research a vaccine or cure for a decisive victory, or simply indulge in the satisfaction of rebuilding entire cities!
Your Zone is not the sole survivor enclave in existence. Your group will undoubtedly encounter other surviving factions.
Some will be friendly and open to trade, while others will be highly hostile, leading to potential conflicts and skirmishes. Be prepared for a variety of interactions with different survivor groups!
The demo, available now, allows you to experience gameplay in various real-world locations such as Paris, Cambridge, and more. The full version will offer the opportunity to play in any real city. Additionally, a prologue version is in the works, which will be an extended demo lasting about an hour.
Although the demo is somewhat limited, the concept is captivating. Your armed units, limited by the guns and ammo you’ve scavenged, explore the city during the day while infected sleep inside buildings.
They search for vital resources such as food, supplies, medicine, guns, and ammunition. Meanwhile, your other civilians collect materials like wood, metal, and bricks to construct walls and repurpose on-map buildings for your own needs.
