CD Projekt’s ambitious project, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, continues to make strides in its development journey. With the game still in its nascent stages, recent updates shed light on the dedicated team spearheading its creation.

According to a recent news release, development efforts for the sequel are underway at CD Projekt’s offices in the United States and Canada. While the project remains in its early phases, key personnel from the original game have been enlisted to lend their expertise.

Notable figures such as Gabriel Amatangelo (game director), Paweł Sasko (associate game director), and Igor Sarzyński (creative director) are among the seasoned veterans leading the charge. Joining them are Andrzej Stopa (cinematic director), Kacper Niepokólczycki (environment art director), and Sarah Grümmer (acting lead quest designer), among others.

Gabriel Amatangelo will be part of the team working n the new Cyvberpunk 2077 .

A significant portion of the development team is stationed at CD Projekt’s newly established office in Boston, Massachusetts. Notable additions to the Boston studio include industry veterans Dan Hernberg, formerly of Blizzard, serving as executive producer, and Ryan Barnard, hailing from IO Interactive and Massive Entertainment, assuming the role of design director. Additionally, Alan Villani, known for his technical expertise on Mortal Kombat, joins as engineering director.

In a move to enrich the narrative experience, acclaimed writer Anna Megill, known for her work on titles like Control and Dishonored: Death of The Outsider, has been appointed as the lead writer for the Cyberpunk sequel. Megill’s expertise extends to the upcoming Fable game, where she contributed to narrative elements. Accompanying her is Alexander Freed, a seasoned novelist and comic book writer with a rich background in crafting engaging narratives for renowned franchises such as Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The original Cyberpunk 2077 encountered a tumultuous launch in December 2020 but has since undergone significant improvements, boasting over 25 million copies sold. The positive reception to its expansion, Phantom Liberty, underscores the enduring appeal of the franchise. The sequel, announced in October 2022, signals CD Projekt’s ongoing commitment to expanding the Cyberpunk universe, with the potential addition of multiplayer experiences on the horizon.
