ItzSmerf: Gamer, Streamer And So Much More

Title-2

Twitch streamer itzSmerf is engaging and entertaining, but there is so much more to him than meets the eye.

itzSmerf is a Twitch streamer with over 1000 followers that delivers engaging and relevant content.

During a recent interview, we had the opportunity to delve deeper into the life of this versatile content creator and were astounded by what lies beyond the surface.

ItzSmerf has been involved in gaming for a while now, accumulating experience and falling more in love with the industry.

Without further ado, here’s how the interview went:

Who is ItzSmerf and how did you get into streaming?

“I grew using gaming as a way to connect with my friends and family. Often making my sister play Ice Climbers with me, or recording my gameplay on VHS to show to my friends when I invited them around. Unfortunately, I never really knew about Justin.TV or had the tech to create YouTube videos. And it all kind of passed me by, not ever really connecting these platforms to the thing I enjoyed doing so much as a kid.
Until eventually a friend convinced me to just try it out and see if I like it. And I did. From day one I started building a community, doing this thing that was so important to me in my younger years, except now, I can reach people globally.
I was hooked instantly and love every minute of it, even though I can’t help but feel a sadness that I had let this slip by for so many years. I definitely missed out, but it just makes me appreciate what I am doing now even more.”

As a member of the gaming community, what is your role?

“That is something I have been trying to figure out for years. I started a company selling games at really low prices, at a time when there weren’t many online stores offering decent discounts.
But with a big shift in the industry, when Takealot acquired Mr Delivery, I was no longer able to compete with my lower game prices, because I was now too expensive with my delivery fees. I eventually pivoted my company and started a gaming magazine, with the intention of being on the shelves the month after NAG dropped their physical distribution.
But with constant delays and struggling with a fully work from home team, I missed the deadline I had set for myself, and moved past this idea.
I am definitely looking for a place to fit in, beyond being an entertainer with my streams, but only the future will reveal what that may be. But organizing and running events does seem appealing to me.”

What is your favourite genre of game?

“I would have to say RPG’s and single player story driven action games. I like feeling like the hero and I am generally pretty bad when it comes to competitive multi-player games.”

What is your preferred gaming platform?

‘When I am streaming I like to play on PC, there is a lot less hassle that way. But when I want to chill and just jam some games with the homies I play on Xbox.”

What is your favourite thing about gaming?

“I really enjoy a rich story and getting to unravel it as the game progresses, or being in a really good-looking world with great landscapes and architecture.
But the number one thing about gaming for me, is looking awesome doing sick things.
Beating a boss with a spicy combo, weaving through traffic in a stolen car before jumping it off a bridge, slaying demons with over-the-top weapons, big flashy set piece moments, all these things put a huge smile on my face.”

What are your current projects and what do you have planned for the near future?

“I am currently trying to bring things together to start a little podcast. I would like to cover topics that I find interesting, not just around gaming and streaming, but around creatives and their process for making new things.
Right now I am streaming from my office, but eventually, I would like to be able to do IRL streams and get to spend some time showing my international community around South Africa or some of our gaming/streaming events.”

“I stream on Twitch Monday to Friday from around 17:30 (GMT+2), currently making my way through some FromSoft challenge runs. Recently we finished Dark Souls 1 and 3 without leveling up, and now we are wrapping up the last two bosses for our no leveling challenge in Elden Ring.”
