Marvel chose to let him go after he was found guilty of assault and harassment
A jury in New York found actor Jonathan Majors guilty of assault and harassment during a domestic quarrel with his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Majors was convicted on Monday of one count of third-degree reckless assault and a non-criminal charge of harassment as a violation. According to Variety, Marvel Studios fired Majors from his ongoing role as Kang following the judgment.
On another assault accusation and one count of aggravated harassment, the actor was acquitted. The sentence date for his guilty conviction is set for February 6, 2024. Majors was fired from productions, advertisements, and his agency following his arrest in March.
Following final arguments on Thursday, the jury began to deliberate for almost four and a half hours before reaching a verdict.
According to CNN , prosecutors said during closing arguments last week that Majors “didn’t hesitate to employ physical violence” on Jabbari in the March altercation. During her final argument, Majors’ attorney emphasized her client’s innocence, calling the claims against him “false” and indicating that Jabbari was the one who hit first.
“We are gratified to see justice served by today’s guilty verdict. “Ms. Jabbari testified publicly and truthfully, even though reliving these traumatic events on the witness stand was obviously painful,” Jabbari’s attorneys said in a statement. “We are grateful to the jurors and the Judge for their attention and patience, and to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for their hard work and support.”
Majors was supposed to be the next big Marvel Studios villain in the next phase of films, but an alternate plan has been circulating for months since his incarceration. Disney also removed his feature Magazine Dreams, which was scheduled to be released during the holiday season, from its release schedule.
