It includes a free upgrade for owners of the ‘Definitive Edition’

Killer Instinct has been on the Xbox One for ten years, and to commemorate the occasion, a new version of the game called Killer Instinct: Anniversary Edition has been announced. There is currently no release date.

If you already own Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition, this version is a free upgrade that adds support for Xbox Series X|S. As part of this update, the Definitive Edition is also being phased out. The Anniversary Edition includes all 29 fighters as well as premium content such as VIP Double XP Booster, holiday-themed accessories, and more.

The Anniversary Edition costs $29.99 if you aren’t already eligible for the free upgrade. The following mature-rated content will not be included in the Anniversary Edition: ‘Definitive Edition App’ and Xbox KI Classic 1 & 2. If you already own the Definitive Edition, you can still download this content separately.

As part of this, the team is also discontinuing the ability to buy individual fighters and different editions. Also, don’t worry about losing anything you’ve already purchased because it will be saved in your library.

The Definitive Edition is currently available for $13 USD (or the regional equivalent), which includes access to the Anniversary Edition when it becomes available. Killer Instinct’s new free-to-play version will include the base game as well as one free weekly rotating fighter, as well as single, local, and ranked play modes. This free version will also be available through Steam.

Last but not least, Iron Galaxy has released Version 3.10 patch notes. This is a massive balance update that prioritizes issues that the team felt would have the greatest impact. The patch notes can be found in full on the Ultra-Combo website. While many characters have had updates, there are ten characters who have not had their balances adjusted. There are also some other changes, such as a new logo and a slew of UI changes.

More information about the next update and the upgrade can be found in the most recent Killer Instinct blog post.
