Contemplating Competitive Shifts: Riot Games Addresses Ranked ARAM in League of Legends AMA
In a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, Riot Games developers addressed the prospect of introducing a Ranked version of ARAM (All Random All Mid) in League of Legends.
Against the Essence of ARAM:
Eduardo Cortejoso, Riot’s game modes project lead, expressed reservations about implementing a Ranked ARAM mode, emphasizing that it contradicts the fundamental nature of ARAM. He noted that many players turn to ARAM specifically to avoid the stress of competitive experiences found in Summoner’s Rift.
Cortejoso stated, “Introducing a ranked queue and supporting it more wholeheartedly changes the perception of the mode as something inherently more competitive, which we want to avoid.” Past tests and surveys on this concept reportedly received a negative response, reinforcing the decision to avoid a permanent ranked ARAM experience.
Alternative Competitive Format:
While dismissing the idea of Ranked ARAM, Cortejoso mentioned Clash as an alternative for players seeking a more competitive ARAM variant. In Clash, competitiveness is introduced for a limited duration, potentially sidestepping some of the issues associated with the standard Ranked mode in League of Legends.
