Along with confirming the sequel, new concept art for the upcoming DLC was also shared
The developers behind Lies of P are not letting any grass grow, it would seem. Things are happening fast as they tackle their upcoming projects. The November patch for Lies of P will also smooth out the early game difficulty.
“Our highest priority is developing the DLC and working on our sequel,” director Jiwon Choi said in their latest Director’s Letter video. “The dev team is putting significant effort, brainstorming and exploring different aspects of the projects.” Choi went on to share two pieces of concept art: one showcasing of an icy, mechanical interior, and then the other showing of our protagonist on a worn ship.
Their recent job listings mentioned that a DLC was currently in development. Fans speculated that Lies of P’s end credits scene may be coming into play here taking us to a brand new fairytale world. However, the review’s concept art didn’t reveal any such thing at this stage. It remains to be seen if the DLC will be going that way or if it will be saved for the upcoming sequel.
At this stage, it’s hard to say where exactly the DLC is headed. It’s a souls-like game after all. The developers made use of a publicly domained story for the original so chances are good that they will go the same route. As the saying goes, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Neowiz the developers behind Lies of P didn’t share anything giving away a broader theme about the upcoming DLC.
We know there’s a ship evolved and there is a mechanical interior. That’s about it, it does allow to roam with some speculation such as Frankenstein. To elaborate on these speculations, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein novel begins on a ship in the Arctic, which checks on some of those concept art ideas.
The story behind Frankenstein itself pretty much falls under the categories of a god complex, humanity and a lack of morals, and last but not least, creating life in unnatural ways.
With all of that said, it pretty much sounds like a good concept for Lies of P’s upcoming DLC. Frankenstein would fit in perfectly with what they’re doing. The theme is there, the means are there and there’s there’s more than enough lore to utilize and stick to the story. Choi’s words “What I just showed you merely scratches the tip of the iceberg”.
The director also shared some information regarding the upcoming November patch. The upcoming patch will buff the blades and handles that weren’t “meeting expectations”. It will also smooth out the early game difficulty, this will be done by equipping P with the Rising Dodge ability from the start. Another unique add-on in the patch is the introduction of another equipment slot for facial accessories, allowing you to wear glasses and hats at the same time.
