Melicorn: YouTuber, Xbox Ambassador, graphic designer And So Much More.

Melicorn, also known as Meldee Nel, is a vibrant South African content creator with a long list of accomplishments, as we discovered.

We recently caught up with the one and only Melicorn who is best known for her content creation on YouTube which includes Xbox Game Pass game reviews and achievement walkthroughs. We discovered there were many more layers to her after talking with her. So when we interviewed her we asked all the pertinent questions to find out more.

Here is how the full interview went down.

Firstly, we always ask the obligatory Who is Melicorn? – A short backstory:

“I’m Meldee Nel, a gamer, content creator, graphic designer, and a mom. I stay on the South Coast of Durban which is technically irrelevant in the gaming community as we get to explore so many worlds and connect with others from across the globe!
I’ve been gaming on-off for years but only started ‘seriously’ gaming in 2018 with my first Xbox One console. My closest friends are also gamers and my little one as well which makes gaming a big part of my life and so much easier having loved ones around me who understand and support this ‘hobby’. “

What is her role in the Gaming community?

“I’m an Xbox Ambassador as well as an Xbox Playdate ZA host. I assist with Xbox queries and host playdates to encourage other Xbox gamers to join in on community nights. I’m also a Fortnite content creator and host private lobby matches, often just for fun between friends.
I also review new games and had a series called Xbox Game Pass Hour that introduced the community to new Xbox games available through the Game Pass subscription. I’m also one of the Z-League content creators, a platform giving an opportunity to other Fortnite players to earn IRL money for playing games. “

What is Melicorn’s favourite game or genre of game?

“Platformers. Especially precision jumping and procedurally generated platformers. My favourite game however is a battle simulator, a ton of friends do not understand why I enjoy playing it until they themselves understand the strategy behind it and knowing every ‘round’ is going to be different. The game is called 50 years. (it’s actually an easy achievement game, but so much fun!)”

What is her preferred platform?

“Honestly, Xbox. But I’m by no means interested in creating platform wars. To me, if you’re gaming – and you’re having fun, then you’re doing it right, regardless of the platform. I just prefer to disconnect from my PC after work hours and not use the same platform for business and pleasure.
I also have most of my friends on Xbox which is convenient for games that don’t have cross-play available, and with game sharing it makes it easier having more than one console in the household but paying less on subscriptions.”

So, what exactly is your favourite thing about gaming?

“To me, it has so many advantages. Exploring worlds and allowing your imagination to run with a game and experience so many possibilities, without having to leave your home. Connecting with others, near and far. Escaping and relaxing after a long day.
Couch co-ops with my partner or my daughter makes for fun family nights. Competing in tournaments trying to push yourself to do better every time.”

What drives Melicorn’s gaming passion?

“Xbox and social platform messages saying “thank you for the game suggestion” or “thank you for assisting me”. I absolutely LOVE helping others. Having my loved ones share my passion is also one of the biggest blessings I have. “

We know what you are thinking, what projects is she currently working on, and does she have any projects on the horizon?

“2021 was a quiet year for me, regrouping after a few bumps in the road thanks to Covid, and also after losing my mother. This year I’ll be introducing new games available on Xbox Game Pass again, but with a bit of a twist. I’m also back into reviewing games this year which will be available on my social media’s. “
