Phil Spencer, says the company’s goal going forward is to produce an endless stream of “great” video game material.

There are a lot of creative developers working under the Xbox brand right now, and Microsoft gaming’s CEO Phil Spencer seems determined to create great content.

Spencer made a statement at the recent  Xbox Era podcast saying:

“We do have a lot of great games in development…We want to get to this point where there’s a steady flow of great games that are coming, that our customers can predict…we’re going through right now, you know, [and] we don’t have a big game this quarter – so Matt Booty and the teams, and the ZeniMax teams…want to get to that point where we really have a great on-ramp for our platform and games that people can get excited about on a regular basis.”

This isn’t anything new of course as it has been Phil Spencer’s stance for a while, just last year the company stated specifically that it aspires to release at least one significant first-party game per quarter of the year.

Given the sheer number of first-party teams under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella, and how many more will be added once the Activision Blizzard deal is completed somewhere in 2023, one would expect Microsoft to reach that point sooner than later.

Redfall is due out this year.

Everything Xbox does revolve around content though. Content fuels everything from services to game sales to hardware purchases. The Xbox division is doomed without content. Fortunately, the gaming company can rely on third-party titles on its marketplace and Game Pass subscription program.

At this time the Xbox teams have numerous new games in development but only time will tell when all these titles will be released and if Phil Spencer’s goal will be realized.

For now, in the near future, we have Redfall and Starfield to look forward to in 2022, and once Deathloop’s PlayStation timed exclusivity period expires later this year, you can expect it to be released on Xbox Series X/S and Game Pass as well.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Microsoft Gaming and all of the developers under their umbrella, as well as for those of us who are eagerly anticipating new releases.
