Game Director Discusses Controversy Surrounding PS5 Release

Naughty Dog, the developer of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, has responded to criticism surrounding the PS5 release of the acclaimed game. Game director Matthew Gallant expressed confusion over the negative feedback, emphasizing that the remastered version is designed to offer the best experience for new PlayStation owners and those new to the franchise.

In an interview with VGC, Gallant stated, “It’s the best way to play The Last of Us Part 2. If you’re a new PlayStation owner and new to the franchise, we want to get you the best experience with all the hardware features on a PS5 native version of the game.” He acknowledged that the remastered edition might not appeal to everyone but highlighted the excitement of bringing it to fans who find the idea of a PS5 version thrilling.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered includes various enhancements such as improved graphics, additional content like lost levels, developer commentary, a free-play guitar mode, extensive accessibility features, and a roguelike mode called No Survivor. Despite the controversy, the overall package has received positive reviews for the improvements and added features.

Addressing pricing concerns, the remastered game is available for $50, with a $10 upgrade option for existing owners. Regarding Naughty Dog’s future projects, the studio has confirmed that it won’t be pursuing The Last of Us multiplayer game, as it has been cancelled to concentrate all resources on the development of the next single-player game.

As the gaming community continues to engage in discussions about remasters and re-releases, Naughty Dog aims to provide an enhanced experience for players on the latest hardware, while acknowledging that individual preferences may vary.
