Its been officially confirmed that Mafia 4 is in development even though it is said to be “a few years away”
The rumour mill has been rife with whispers of the next installment in the Mafia franchise. That it would be under new leadership, following the departure of longtime president and chief creative officer Haden Blackman.
General manager Roman Hladk and Head of Production and Media Director Tomáš Hřebíček finally confirmed the new game in an interview. They published the interview on mafiagame.com to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original Mafia.
In the interview, Roman Hladk stated:
“I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project! While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”
Action-adventure game developer 2K Czech first produced the Mafia series (formerly Illusion Softworks). However, as of the third iteration, Hangar 13 is responsible for game development while 2K Games is in charge of publishing.
In addition to the first game’s remake, the second game’s remastered edition, and two mobile spin-offs. The Mafia franchise has three mainline installments.
The fictitious settings of the Mafia series games are modeled from actual American cities.
Although more linear than other open-world games like Grand Theft Auto. The gameplay centers on an open world. Where players accomplish objectives to advance a larger story and engage in other side activities.
The new installment will reportedly be a prequel to the existing trilogy and they will build it with Unreal Engine 5.
Mafia 3 wasn’t the great success they thought it would be. So it will be interesting to see how this new installment fairs with the critics.
