Not One But Two Delays

Not-One-But-Two-Delays

This one hits hard, we’ve been waiting for these for what seems like forever now.

Bethesda just announced in a tweet that both Starfield and Redfall have been delayed to Fall 2023. Given the recent not-too-successful launches of some past games, this comes as no surprise.

The tweet stated:

“The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.”

Thus far the only information regarding the delays is that they’re delaying these games to continue working on them. Their aim is to launch them as polished and playable as possible.

Bethesda has quite the track record with games releasing requiring multiple patches and fixes. So hopefully this can be taken as a precaution on their end, to at least minimize the potential bugs that these games have post-release.

Starfield has so far promised some ambitious gameplay, and it was initially scheduled for release on the 11th of November 2022, while Redfall had an unspecified release date in the late 2022 window.

Each game is expected to get their in-depth gameplay reveals “soon”, although Bethesda did not specify exactly when this would happen.

Starfield gameplay footage

Starfield was originally announced at E3 in 2018. The game was said to be: ”a wholly new, next-generation experience set in an entirely new space-themed world.”

The steamstore describes the game as:

”the first new universe in 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. In this next-generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.”

Starfield will be released on Microsoft Windows and Xbox SeriesX/S.

The four main characters in Redfall

As for Redfall, this open-world FPS will feature both single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes. Within the game, players can choose from four playable characters, each with their own past and talents, to fight vampires and human adversaries.

The game is based on the premise that it is set within the titular island town of Redfall, Massachusetts. After a failed scientific experiment, a legion of vampires invaded and isolated the town from the outside world.

Trapped inside Redfall, players must choose among four unique survivors — cryptozoologist and inventor Devinder Crousley, telekinetic student Layla Ellison, combat engineer Remi de la Rosa, and supernatural sharpshooter Jacob Boyer — and slay their enemies, vampires and humans alike. Redfall will also be released on Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S.

There wasn’t more information divulged in the Tweet from Bethesda but if the past is any indication there will be game-breaking bugs that will need to be fixed from the very start.
