The self-proclaimed Unicorn Potato is a delightful addition to the local content creator scene.
This Happy-go-lucky content creator and streamer adds the sparkle to game streaming. With her little in -stream-sounds and quirks, you can’t help but be happy when you enter her world.
“Nyxxie” is a passionate gamer with more of a casual approach to her games and according to her bio likes “to play underrated or story-driven games, blind and with no knowledge of the game “.
With all this positive energy being exuded from her streams we wanted to find out more about the person behind the unicorn horn and kitty ears.
We caught up with her for a quick interview and this is how it went down.
We first went ahead and tried to find out who is behind the name “Nyxxafino” so we asked…
Who is Nyxxafino? and what is your backstory?
“Nyx or affectionately Nyxxie by most of my friends has almost become a complete persona on its own. What started out as just a simple name when I first got the courage to venture into the world of gaming has now developed into something that has allowed me to become comfortable in my identity as a person.
I have always struggled with terrible self-confidence and anxiety, which caused me to be a rather reserved and shy kid. I was an avid reader and music lover growing up and could always be found with a book somewhere in arms reach.
As I got older, I got exposed more and more to gaming until I finally plucked up the courage to start trying it out myself at the ripe age of around 25 I got sucked into it and never looked back. Even though I was always the nervous and shy girl who didn’t have a clue what I was doing, I slowly gained more confidence and found friends who were always happy to carry me as I learned to get better.
I always used to joke and say “Nyx Knows Nothing”, which eventually became the seed of the mental health project of my streaming and content creation. During the struggles of the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns, I realized how important gaming was in my life and the role it played in my mental health.
This made me think of the fact that I am sure I was not the only person out there who might have similar struggles and how difficult it can be to connect with people and feel safe in gaming as a shy and anxious person, especially as a woman. After many a pep talk and much doomsday planning, I hit the live button on Twitch and the unicorn chaos was unleashed. “
What is your role in the gaming community?
“My imposter syndrome would always tell me I have no real role, but after slowly growing in a number of different gaming communities and eventually being part of my own little band of misfits, I need to tell myself otherwise.
If I have to think of a role I would want to represent in a community, it would have to be the Chaotic Unicorn. The unicorn holds a special meaning to me as it represents the childhood magic and hope that so often gets lost in the chaos of growing up and fighting internal demons, as it brings light and laughter wherever it goes.
And as a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I always try to give people a space to be themselves and feel safe enough to be who they might not always be able to be in other parts of their life.”
What is your favourite genre of game?
“MMO RPG games will always have a strong place in my heart. Guild Wars 2 was one of the first games I played with friends and still gives me many hours of joy.
I also greatly enjoy very story-rich RPG games and have very slowly started developing something resembling bad aim to venture into FPS games.”
What is your preferred gaming platform?
“PC has to be a favourite for me, but I do still enjoy a lazy Friday night curled up on the couch like a potato with my old PS3 from time to time.”
What is your favourite thing about gaming?
“The social part of gaming really is one of the biggest things I love most. I have made unforgettable friendships from around the world through gaming. And who can’t love all the RGB rainbow colours!”
What are your current projects and what do you have planned for the future?
“At the moment I have been working on developing my skills as a content creator and streamer.
I am actually a trained Anti-Money Laundering Officer by profession and have had to teach myself a lot of the things that go into creating content, which I have zero experience in. From learning to design emotes to improving my stream quality, every day has been a new learning experience as I keep growing the Nyx Knows Nothing project.
In the long run, I plan to grow the project and community which we have dubbed “The Rainbow Rangers”, to give people a space to be unapologetically authentic and true to themselves.”
Well, there you have it, the unicorn with a passion for gaming and the sweet demeanour to keep you coming back for more streams where there is an atmosphere of love and happiness, and who doesn’t need that.
