A trailer and other morsels of information about the newest Yakuza game have been released, including the revelation that Yakuza 8 will not be its official title

The eighth mainline installment in the Yakuza universe is being developed as we speak and contrary to popular belief won’t be named Yakuza eight as originally thought. The official name will be “Like  A Dragon 8” and this and other new information has recently come to light for fans to sink their teeth into.

The news was announced during the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Summit and apparently, Kazuma Kiryu is back and has changed his hair quite dramatically.

Although RGG Studio was coy about specifics at the game’s reveal, Kiryu’s new silver fox hairdo does apparently have some significance for the game’s tale and storyline.

The trailer itself doesn’t reveal too much and shows simply Kiryu and Ichiban walking down the streets of Kamurocho talking in Japanese. Kiryu says that he and Ichiban “don’t have a choice,” to which Ichiban then says “Guess it’s Hero time”.

The summit did provide some further information, though, including the fact that this time around, you’ll be able to choose between two protagonists—Kiryu and Ichiban—and that the game would maintain the turn-based RPG format it first introduced in Yakuza 7.

They also revealed that this would be the “largest game to date” in the Yakuza series which could be intriguing or frightening.

The developer also disclosed that Kiryu would appear in his own side narrative, Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. Gaiden will serve as a primer for Yakuza 8 and reveal what occurred to Kiryu between the events of Yakuza 6, Yakuza 7, and Yakuza 8. Like A Dragon: Gaiden is set for release in 2023.

The release date for Like A Dragon 8 is set for 2024 so far and the news is that the game will be released for Xbox Series x/s, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC.

The voice lines for the game are reportedly still being recorded which means the release date might be further into 2024 than originally anticipated.

That is all we currently know, but rest assured that we will stay up to date on any new information regarding the well-known Yakuza franchise in order to bring you the most recent information.
