Xbox Chief Shares Vision for Potential Mobile Gaming Device
In a recent interview with Polygon, Xbox head Phil Spencer hinted at the possibility of an Xbox handheld device, shedding light on his vision for such a product.
While Spencer stopped short of confirming the existence of an Xbox handheld, he discussed a range of ideas and features he envisions for such a device. Referring to his own Lenovo Legion Go portable gaming device, Spencer emphasized the importance of creating a seamless Xbox experience on mobile platforms.
“I want my Lenovo Legion Go to feel like an Xbox,” Spencer remarked during this year’s Game Developers Conference, underscoring his desire for continuity across gaming platforms. He highlighted the need for consistent access to game libraries and save files, citing Fallout 76’s lack of cross-save functionality as a notable inconvenience.

Expanding on his wishlist for an Xbox handheld, Spencer expressed a desire for a streamlined user interface that prioritizes gaming content and social features. He envisioned a compact mode for the Xbox app, allowing users to access their social networks and gaming communities seamlessly. Furthermore, Spencer emphasized the importance of controller support, envisioning a handheld device that caters to diverse gaming preferences.
While Spencer refrained from confirming specific plans for an Xbox handheld, he hinted at ongoing discussions within Xbox regarding potential ventures into the mobile gaming market. “I’ve got my list of things we should go do,” Spencer remarked, suggesting that Xbox remains open to exploring opportunities in the handheld gaming space.
