The free PVP that was supposed to be released along with Resident Evil Village on the 7th of May has been delayed to later this year.
Update: The news is in that The multiplayer mode has been delayed once again, this time to some time in 2022. The delay is reportedly so that “the team can continue working to deliver a smooth gameplay experience,” Capcom said in a tweet. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
According to an email sent to “Resident Evil ambassadors” and seen by Gamespot, the free PVP that was going to accompany Resident Evil Village in its release next week has been delayed.
The email didn’t give specifics on the news just that the game would be released in the summer of 2021, which presumably means mid-year so not too much longer that fans will have to wait.
The reason for the delay is uncertain at this point, but it seems Resident Evil Village will launch as scheduled with no delays. Resident Evil RE: Verse has nothing to do with the storyline of the Village so shouldn’t affect the game in any way.
Resident Evil Re: Verse features Resident Evil franchise characters in third-person over-the-shoulder multiplayer action. Four to six players fight in 5-minute deathmatch battles with guns and objects found throughout the world, with the player who scores the most points at the end of the match winning. Each Human character has a unique collection of abilities and weaponry.
Capcom has been regularly hosting beta tests for the mode, which is probably why they have decided to delay as they might’ve found bugs and fixes during these tests.
Resident Evil Village seems to be on track for its release date and has many timed demos, the final one was even extended by a week in order to give players a better chance. There have been no big technical issues reported with the game which is probably due to Capcom putting all their manpower into the game. Having demos suggests that Capcom has enough confidence in the game at its start.
Resident Evil Re: Verse will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam and will not launch with a native next-gen version.
Time will tell whether this is the franchise’s only delay, but right before a game’s release is when delays are most common.
