Retro Gadgets is the 2D simulator where you will be able to tinker and create your very own cool gadgets
Do you like to spend time repairing, tinkering, and fiddling? Then Retro Gadgets might be the perfect game for you because it requires no prior knowledge of electronics and doesn’t put you at risk of damaging anything in real life.
The official steam overview of the game states:
“You look up from your cosy little workbench. It’s dark out, what time is it? It doesn’t matter; you’ve been in the flow and are adding the final touches to your latest retro gadget. Just one more line of code, a spray of paint here, a sticker there – it’s done. You power it on… The start-up sound kicks in… the needles on the gauges flutter, and the screen lights up… it’s glorious. It’s ready to share with the world. Now, all it needs is a name.”
Yes, it is set in a retro 2D style but this doesn’t take away from the style and fun that the game has to offer.
They have added a coding element to the game too where you will need to “Write and debug your own code” in their Lua coding environment, or you can simply upload it to the CPU. You also have the chance to program games, live weather stations, drum machines, cameras, video players, radios, etc – the possibilities are endless.
And if like me, you have a new idea and a flash of inspiration, the game has a feature that lets you archive your current project so you can come back to it at a later time. So just like in real life, you can have multiple unfinished products on the go at once.
If you need some inspiration you can also find other projects that other makers have shared via the Steam workshop.
The system requirements for the game are not very high, since it is a retro-style game, although 8 MB of RAM is recommended.
