Microsoft and Larian Studios have joined forces to address the issue
Reportedly, Larian has stated that it intends to lift the ban for certain players of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox who recorded clips featuring explicit content in the game.
The problem surfaced when a player took to Reddit to caution fellow Xbox users about utilizing the console’s capture tools, specifically video recording, to capture scenes involving what they described as “naked camp time fun.” The player, Daddy-Vegas, faced a ban encompassing all three of their recorded clips, leading to an overall ban of over a year. Upon learning of the bans, Larian pledged to collaborate with Microsoft to address the issue. The studio’s Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, described the entire ordeal as “annoying and uncool.”
It appears like progress has been achieved now. Douse on X (formerly Twitter) reported that he got word that Microsoft is still in talks about their policy and that the bans imposed for recording explicit Baldur’s Gate 3 content are being lifted. In the meanwhile, Xbox users were urged by the official Larian X account to disable mature content before posting game snippets.
Launched on Xbox during The Game Awards, Baldur’s Gate 3 is an RPG that won six awards in total, including Game of the Year. While the Xbox version of the game launched without any major problems, there have been save game issues that have been linked to a firmware issue. While a solution is being developed, Larian advises users to enable cross-saves by creating a Larian account and linking it to their Xbox profile. By doing this, any progress loss is avoided as Larian’s servers will automatically upload the last five saves.
The Xbox originally refused to release the RPG because of difficulties in setting up split-screen co-op on Xbox Series S systems. It was decided not to include this feature on the Xbox Series S in order to speed up the game’s release on the platform. Nonetheless, Larian hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of couch co-op ever being added to the Xbox Series S version. In the meantime, Baldur’s Gate 3 for the Xbox Series X already has couch co-op built in.
