Sonic Superstars will be a 2D Retro throwback with up to four players.
Unveiled during the Summer Game Fest, the upcoming retro game is set to become the latest addition to the iconic Sonic series.
Sonic Superstars showcases a sleek 3D art style while retaining the classic 2D Sonic gameplay. It offers multiplayer functionality for up to four players, with the option to control Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy.
Even when playing solo, you have the freedom to select any character to play with. Each character possesses unique abilities, such as Knuckles’ climbing skills and Amy’s hammer.
Sonic has remained a beloved fixture in numerous households throughout the years, and this latest installment ensures a combination of “New thrills and classic feels” for fans to enjoy.
The official overview of Sonic Superstars states:
In this installment you will get to “Harness the Power of the Chaos Emeralds: Multiply, swim up waterfalls, change form, and more with the powers of the Chaos Emeralds.”
The game will also feature bonus stages reminiscent of the original games, where players navigate Sonic in a pinball-like fashion through block-based courses.
Sega has been delving into nostalgic throwbacks with titles such as Sonic Mania, an entirely original 2D Sonic game, and Sonic Origins, a remake of the cherished Sega Genesis classics.
Sonic Superstars will be priced at a base price of $60 and will be released later this year. To get your free exclusive Amy skin you can sign up at the official website.
