There’s never been a better time for Mario to visit the second dimension, and it’s coming very soon.
The game was announced at the June Nintendo Direct games showcase and is said to be released on the 20th of October this year.
This marks the debut of a 2D side-scrolling platform game in the Super Mario series for a new console after a gap of more than ten years since the original release of New Super Mario Bros. U in 2012.
During the presentation, Nintendo announced that the adventure begins when Mario touches a “Wonder Flower.” That unlocks various world wonders that change gameplay in unique ways, such as bringing pipes to life or summoning hordes of enemies.
The game features a four-player co-op with Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, and Yoshi. A key art piece released with the announcement hints at other elements, like Luigi using a giant hat to glide.
Within the game, players can enjoy the introduction of fresh elements such as an Elephant power-up and the inclusion of Princess Daisy as a playable character. This is a significant milestone for console Mario games, as Princess Daisy was only previously playable in Super Mario Run, but now makes her first appearance in a console title.
As far as gameplay goes Just like its predecessors, the objective of this 2D Mario game is to navigate Mario towards a flagpole, all while evading adversaries like Goombas and Piranha Plants.
Each level contains two “Wonder Seeds,” one to be collected within the level and the other obtained upon completing the level. The player has the ability to enter pipes, which allow for seamless movement between the background and foreground.
Introducing a fresh power-up called the Wonder Flower, the game brings forth novel dynamics.
Nintendo describes the effects of the Wonder Flower as follows:
The franchise on the Nintendo Switch encompasses various other games, such as the highly anticipated Super Mario Odyssey, two collaborations with Ubisoft in the form of the turn-based Mario + Rabbids series, and a port of Super Mario 3D World from the Wii U. This version of Super Mario 3D World offers substantial expansions and enhancements compared to the original game.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder Preorders are now currently live.
