British Studio Faces Staff Reductions Despite Ongoing Projects
Supermassive Games, renowned for titles like Until Dawn and The Quarry, has confirmed significant staff reductions with 90 positions being cut and an additional 150 roles deemed “at risk.” The British studio, currently employing over 300 staff, disclosed this decision on Monday, citing the need for reorganization.
The announcement comes amidst a turbulent period in the gaming industry, where several major companies have implemented layoffs in recent months. Despite efforts to avoid such measures, Supermassive emphasized the necessity of this reorganization to navigate current challenges effectively.
In a statement addressing the layoffs, Supermassive emphasized its commitment to handle the process with empathy and professionalism, acknowledging the impact on affected employees. This move underscores the complexities faced by game developers in maintaining stability while pursuing ambitious projects.

Despite the workforce adjustments, Supermassive remains focused on its upcoming releases. Little Nightmares III and the next installment in the Dark Pictures Anthology series are among the projects in development, demonstrating the studio’s determination to deliver engaging experiences to players.
Additionally, while a remake of Until Dawn is in progress, it’s noteworthy that Supermassive is not directly involved in its development, signifying a shift in the studio’s focus amidst the reorganization.
