Techland is reportedly working on a new open-world fantasy ARPG, with some former CD Projekt Red employees on the development team.
This news came in the form of job listings and a statement by Techland stating: “We are hiring for the unannounced AAA Open World Action-RPG in a fantasy setting!”.
The Twitter post stated: “Are you ready to begin a new, thrilling journey with Techland?”
There were 70 job openings listed across a variety of categories, including art design, animation, development, and production. The job listings can be found here.
They are also looking for a creative director who should be “defining a clear, creative vision for the game and establishing the foundations of the game (meaning, experience, context, player fantasy, world, etc.)”.
Several former CD Projekt Red employees will be part of the development team for the new AAA title, including Barosz Ochman (Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), narrative director Karolina Stachrya (The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3), and narrative lead Arkadiusz Borowik (The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3).
CEO at Techland Pawel Marchewka said in a statement:
“We’re very happy with what we have accomplished with the Dying Light franchise so far.
Moreover, our journey with Dying Light 2 Stay Human has only just begun as we plan to support this game for at least five years, with its scope and size matching, if not exceeding, what we have provided our community with during post-launch support for its predecessor.
At the same time, our ambition is to introduce a brand-new IP that is vastly different from what we have been doing for the past several years. We want to create a fully next-gen experience.
A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fueled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity.
While we cannot share more details about this project now, we’re all truly invested in it and looking forward to showing it to gamers when the time is right.”
This is excellent news for fans of the developer’s past works, such as Dead Island, Dying Light, XPAND Rally Call of Juarez, and others, as these games received mainly positive reviews, although the Dying Light series’ storyline did receive some criticism.
What will this new project’s storyline offer, and how will it compare to other AAA Titles in its genre? Only time will tell, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on developments because this may be significant news in the gaming world.
