A new Tekken game was teased during EVO 2022 leading everyone to believe it might be Tekken 8

Rumours of a remake of the original Tekken game and a sequel for the game have been circulating a lot lately and this has now been strengthened by a 30-second teaser video shown during this year’s EVO championship series.

The video can be seen below via Tweet from the official Tekken Twitter account:

In the video, we see an advertisement for the Tekken World Tour Global Finals which will happen in Amsterdam in February of next year as well as footage of Kazuya at the end of the original Tekken where he drops his father off a cliff in revenge.

The camera then zooms on his face and changes to an older version of Kazuya with a scarred face and red eyes, which he gained in Tekken 4 with the words “Get Ready”.

This information is not brand-new, as it appears that Tekken 8 was hinted at in the Nvidia leak from last year, in which a web developer discovered a database of games on Nvidia’s GeForce Now client, including some that had not yet received a release date.

Even though Tekken 7 is still receiving support from its 2015 release date, it is aged a bit and a new installment seems the logical decision. Bandai Namco hasn’t confirmed that this teaser was for Tekken 8, but this does seem to be the most likely scenario.

The norm seems to be an 8-year gap between new releases in the Tekken franchise and if that’s anything to go by then Tekken 8 seems to be the next logical step in the Tekken universe.

The three main characters in the Tekken series.

Back in 2017 series Director, Katsuhiro Harado was asked if Tekken 8 would be inevitable he answered:

“If the game is released and the players really seem to like 7 and want to see more in the same vein, perhaps that’s something that could happen.

Or it could be that we release the game and at some point decide to change a lot of the game so much so that it warrants an 8 or a number change. We have some early ideas for what we’d like to do, but it really comes down to the players and what they want to see.”

As you can see the idea of a new installment in the Tekken franchise wasn’t just pulled out of the air, it is substantiated by fact making many people fairly certain the Tekken 8 will be the new project announced soon by Bandai Namco.
