This new upgrade is massive and sure to improve the services they provide

Teraco has announced the expansion of its CT2 hyperscale data center facility in Brackenfell, Cape Town, by 30 megawatts (MW).

The expansion project, which will incorporate the most environmentally sustainable cooling and water management designs, is expected to be completed in early 2025.

Teraco stated that the CT2 expansion is being built in accordance with global hyperscale requirements.

CT2 will be 73,000 square meters in size when finished, with a utility power supply of 90 megavolt-amperes.

The expansion will increase the facility’s deployment space to 18,000 square metres by doubling the number of data halls to 16.

CT2 Phase 2 will include four 5.3MW data halls, two 3.1MW data halls, and two 2.2MW data halls.

The entire facility will support a 50MW IT load.

Jan Hnizdo

Teraco CEO Jan Hnizdo stated that the new CT2 facility provides enterprises with a scalable platform for IT infrastructure deployment, as well as performance, reliability, stringent security, and the broadest selection of carriers and network service providers.

“Teraco is committed to growing its capacity footprint across its core hubs,” Hnizdo said.

“We continue to invest significantly in the region’s ICT infrastructure and have built out Africa’s largest data centre platform,” he also said.

“We take pride in enabling open access interconnection and providing world-class data centre infrastructure for our clients.”

CT2 is part of Teraco’s Cape Town Campus and is linked to CT1 via a variety of fiber routes. It offers enterprises direct access to over 250 network providers, global cloud on-ramps, subsea cable systems, access to over 50 managed service providers, and direct peering at NAPAfrica.

Clients deployed in either of these facilities can connect to AWS Direct Connect and Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute directly, or through Teraco’s Africa Cloud Exchange.

CT2 is the most recent addition to Teraco’s expanding data center platform.

It brings Teraco’s critical power load capacity to 185MW, including the Isando Campus JB1/JB3/JB5 (70MW), Bredell Campus JB2/JB4 (64MW), Cape Town Campus CT1/CT2 (50MW), and Durban (1MW).
