“Anything I say to this becomes a headline,” In response to a question about the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, said media-weary Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors during an earnings presentation on Thursday. And, you know, I get it. But, after so many months of silence and uncertainty, can you blame fans for wanting an update on the project?
The most recent reliable information we had on the KOTOR remake was not encouraging. A Bloomberg report from August 2022 predicted disaster for the remake, which was first announced in 2021. After an internal demo failed to impress, the project was reportedly taken over by Saber Interactive from former developer Aspyr Media.
Publisher Embracer has yet to properly comment on the situation, and we haven’t had an update in a year and a half, other than the occasional groan from Wingefors when asked for comment. Sony was quick to assuage fan concerns in September after a removed trailer appeared to indicate that the KOTOR remake was in jeopardy.

In all seriousness, we write about games that people care about, and Knights of the Old Republic is still one of the most beloved RPGs of all time. It is literally our responsibility to inform readers when the guy in charge of the company promising to bring it back says anything about it. The KOTOR remake continues to pique our interest, so you can bet we’ll be waiting for any word about it, or very clearly not about it.
