Asobo Studio is developing a new game
When Asobo Studio’s A Plague Tale: Innocence was released in 2019, it was a surprise hit, and three years later, A Plague Tale: Requiem continued the trend by outperforming the original, at least in terms of review scores. Asobo Studio has a pretty strong track record thus far, one that the developer may continue with its new project, which was just teased this week. Focus Home Interactive, the publisher of both Plague Tale games, has announced a new collaboration with Asobo for “another exciting project.”
The teaser was shared on Focus Home Interactive’s social media, with the publisher first thanking all of the players who have tried out A Plague Tale: Requiem. More than 3 million players have tried out the gripping rat-filled game, according to Focus Home Interactive, and if assumptions are correct, there will be another to try out in the future.
Possible Plague Tale Sequel:
Of course, neither Focus Home Interactive nor Asobo Studio have said anything about this “exciting project,” but it’s not a stretch to think it’ll be a new Plague Tale game. There’s also the fact that A Plague Tale: Requiem was mentioned alongside this new project, a link that both parties know will pique people’s interest in a third Plague Tale game.
Looking back at Asobo’s previous games, which include a bit of variety such as Microsoft Flight Simulator and Ubisoft’s The Crew 2, you’ll notice that the Plague Tale games are the only ones for which Asobo has collaborated with Focus Home Interactive.
It’s also worth noting that job listings referencing the Plague Tale series were discovered on Asobo’s careers page months ago. There are currently four https://www.asobostudio.com/careers open positions on the “Plague Team,” including a senior game designer position and others.
A Plague Tale: Requiem director Kevin Choteau spoke to PlayStation about the new game and suggested that it was “the end,” but he of course left the door open to more Plague Tale stories based on how the game was received.”
“I think, for now, it’s the end,” he previously stated. “But the door is never closed, and we’ll see the player reception. We want to see their reaction before deciding anything. They are driving our production, and if they don’t like what we’ve done, we need to do something else.”
In addition to whatever this new (presumably Plague Tale) project is, a TV series is still in the works. The series is being produced by the French studio Merlin Productions, with Focus Home Entertainment serving as a co-producer. Mathieu Turi, best known for his work on Inglorious Basterds, is also known to be working on the Plague Tale TV series.
