Dangerous Dave is the smooth-talking Gamer, Gaming Journalist, Twitch streamer, and Content creator that is making waves in the Gaming Community.
The are many facets to this local content creator and we wanted to know more so MGR Gaming recently caught up with him and this is how the interview went down.
First, we asked the obligatory who is Dangerous Dave? and what is your backstory?
“Where do I start, I dipped my toes into the gaming pond as early as the original Gameboy back in 1989 – yes I’m that old but luckily a life indoors gaming avoiding the sun has kept me looking 25. From my first game of ‘Bart Simpson’s Escape from Camp Deadly’ I fell in love with gaming and spent the next couple of decades playing anything with pixels and chip tunes.
It was about a decade ago that I officially started my career in gaming working as a journalist for SA Gamer and was lucky enough to travel all over the world interviewing game developers and attending massive events like E3 – when E3 was still the mecca of gaming.
Since leaving SA Gamer I started Super2bit, a video-focused platform focusing on parody videos which is helmed by a small but passionate crew of gamers/content creators.We continued to cover events all over the world including CES and Computex and now that Covid seems to be chilling out we hope to start traveling again this year.
I also stream weekly to Twitch in between the content creation and am currently partnered with Logitech G and MSI. It’s been a wild ride so far and I never thought in a million years that one day I would be able to see the world and play games while doing it, I’m looking forward to making some more amazing memories in the coming years and hopefully growing my retro gaming collection a bit as well – if my wallet allows me to.”
What is his role in the Gaming Community?
“I guess if I had a role in the gaming community it would be making them laugh with the ridiculous videos we cook up. But I have also spent the last few years coaching up-and-coming content creators, teaching them a few tricks of the trade to get them started with their gaming careers.
Helping them connect with brands and most importantly guiding them to elevate their content in the sea of boring unboxing videos and minimal effort shilling that is dragging the bar for gaming content in South Africa to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.”
His favourite game or genre of game?
“I’m a massive fan of RTS games as well as shooters, I will pretty much play anything with shooting and explosions. I think Michael Bay and I share the same brain.”
We asked him what his preferred gaming platform is and he had this to say:
“It would have to be PC followed by PS5.”
What is his favourite thing about gaming?
“It has to be the escapism, being able to forget all the crap happening around you and just zone out for a few hours. There are few things in this world that I enjoy more than playing my favourite games with a couple of cold ones, my own little digital Eden.”
Dangerous Dave has an obvious passion for gaming and we asked him what exactly drives this passion, this is what he had to say:
“I guess it would have to be exactly that, pure passion, I knew from an early age I wanted to be involved with gaming at some level because I loved it so much. I’m just really blessed to be able to do it as a job now. That and the amazing community that enjoys the stuff I put out otherwise I can promise you I wouldn’t be here.”
We were curious about what his current projects are and what he has planned for the future Here is what he had to say:
“We have got lots planned for this year, Pimp my Rig Season 3 will be happening soon as well as some other stuff we still working on, we also have a brand-new Podcast launching in a few days called Beers of War – you should check it out. As well as hopefully covering a few big events overseas – especially Gamescom it’s been on the bucket list for a while now. And of course, we will be trying to push out more quality content to make the community laugh.”
