In March this year, we were hit with the bad news that The Long Dark had to be pulled from Nvidia GeForce as they didn’t have the correct permissions in place to offer us the game.
Luckily for fans, the company has introduced an Opt-In program to the developers and the respective studios can now “fully control whether or not their games appear on the platform.”
It solely because of this new program that Hinterland has decided to allow Nvidia GeForce to host The Long Dark once again.

Sharing the sentiment of many Developers in the gaming industry, the CEO of Hinterland Raphael van Lierop said in a statement “I believe that creators must be the custodians of their own content and that developers should be able to determine for themselves which platforms their games are experienced on.”
Regarding the decision to pull the game from Nvidia he said: “Back in March, I decided to remove The Long Dark from Nvidia’s GeForce Now game streaming platform, as I disagreed with our game being incorporated into the service without our consent. We discussed our position with Nvidia, which they respected.

“I applaud Nvidia for embracing this opt-in approach, and for their support of independent creators like Hinterland. I also support any developers who choose, for their own reasons, to withhold their games from any platform, and I hope you will respect their decisions to do so as well. Developer choice is at the heart of a strong independent games industry.”
Well there you have it, it seems that Nvidia GeForce has learned its lesson and included developers with its new Opt-In program and therefore ushering in a new era of cooperation between the two companies.
We hope to see a lot more cooperation amongst all aspects of the gaming community as the benefits are endless.
