The remake of Sands of Time by Ubisoft has “passed an important internal milestone.”
Ubisoft has released a new development update for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the highly anticipated remake. Ubisoft announced in 2020 that it was working on a remake of Sands of Time, which would be released in early 2021. After a couple of brief delays, Ubisoft announced that it had essentially restarted work on Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, most likely due to the game failing to meet fan expectations. Now, after a long period of silence, Ubisoft has provided a brief update on how the project is progressing.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Ubisoft today updated fans on the status of the upcoming remake. “The project has passed an important internal milestone and development is progressing,” it was stated specifically.
Ubisoft didn’t say anything else about when The Sands of Time Remake would be shown off next or when it would be released. However, the publisher expressed excitement about sharing more details in the future.
Given the brevity of this development update for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, it’s safe to assume that the game is still a long way from release. Fortunately, this does not mean that the Prince of Persia franchise will cease to exist. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is scheduled to be released in January 2024. This new entry in the series will be a Metroidvania title with a slew of new characters, rather than a 3D action-platformer like Sands of Time. Based on what we saw of The Lost Crown earlier this year, the game looks to be a lot of fun and could breathe new life into the Prince.
